Thirteen was a complete judge-a-book-by-its-cover purchase for me and let me tell you it did not disappoint! I’ve never read any of Steve Cavanagh’s books before, but I will definitely find a way to get my hands on the Eddie Flynn’s series.
To go with Clare Mackintosh’s words it was “a belter of a book”.
“Words never weigh so much as when they’re spoken for somebody else.”
Although the real killer is known from the start of the book, the author has described the whole trial process in so much detail and made it so interesting that I just didn’t want the book to end. I tried to savour it and really took my time.
Eddie Flynn, an ex con-artist now a defence lawyer, agreed to represent Bobby Solomon, a young actor who had just made it big and was accused of killing his wife of two months and their bodyguard.
Thirteen is a play of cat and mouse. It had everything I would expect from a good crime/thriller novel, and more!
It was like Dr Jason Bull and Mindhunter mixed together in the trial of the century to catch the real killer.
In the end, the whole puzzle was pieced together and OH MY GOD what a twister it was! The author threw the plot twists at me left, right and centre and it was nearly impossible to put the book down.
And Jason Kane – sweet cheese, I’m glad he is made up! He is truly something else and out of this world.
Yes, yes and yes some more – 5* out of 5 stars and right up on my favourites pile. A definite must read.
What were your thoughts about it? Let me know.
