Well, I guess I will start off with confirming that this book really did just not work for me. I struggled from the beginning with the absolutely shallow, self-centred and boring characters and put the book down just 78 pages in.
I hear you shouting at me saying I didn’t give it enough time, or it would have gotten better, but in all honesty I was bored. I didn’t feel like I was connecting to the story and kept getting distracted by everything around me.
I feel like one of the reasons may be that I read the translated version. I have mentioned in the past how I think translation work loses the true meaning, or misses the point that simply cannot be made clear with translation.
It’s sad because I’m generally very into period dramas; just love the simple times of no telephones and everything seemed to just be.. unplugged. I may give it another go in the future and read it in English. But this time, I can hand on my heart say that the Estonian version simply just didn’t do it for me.
